The Most Important Issue Of 2010

Today I was talking to an older saint from Wales, his father had been involved in the Welsh revival He was a boy when the fire was still burning in Wales, my old friend has always carried that burning in his heart for revival. We were talking and a group of young people came toward us in the street and a burden for souls like nothing I have experienced for a long time came over me. My friend said look at these young ones isn't it sad probably not one of them has been to Sunday School and no one has ever told them about the Lord. Now they are so far removed from the truth that even when someone speaks to them concerning God they think the person speaking is from another planet.
How can we see this tragedy turned around? Well it’s going to take a sovereign powerful move of God, something that grabs the attention of a generation. It’s not compromise or a lowering of standards to help them "fit" in to a Church system, it’s a takeover. A radical death destroying soul transforming move of the Holy Spirit.
In 1976 I was a teenager who had never been to Sunday School, never been inside a church building, No one ever shared the gospel with me and I certainly didn't know what a true Christian was. My job involved staying with a different farming family every night; one night in June 1976 I stayed with a Christian family, they said to me "We read the bible and pray after dinner, would you like to join us?" I felt awkward and listened to the bible reading then excused myself and said I was going to bed, I went into my room, pulled the blankets over my head and shut my eyes tight. In an instant there was light all around me, I could see it through my closed eyelids. It was the Lord, I guess in response to the prayers of the family he had come for a lost and lonely boy. In an instant I went from having some belief in God to knowing without a doubt that he existed. My life had been changed through a supernatural encounter with Jesus, nothing could convince me otherwise from that moment, Jesus was real and I needed to know more. In 1975 I had walked into a meeting of Christian young people drunk and had been judged and driven out and told not to come back. My standards were less than acceptable around or near this group. So I just walked out. The judgment of that situation didn't change me a bit. But the encounter with Jesus changed me in an instant.
Down through the generations there have always been periods where the young people had no understanding of God or his claims on their lives. In times like these no amount of self righteous indignation and blustering has ever touched a generation. No it takes a sovereign move of the Holy Spirit to bring change.
These moves always come in response to a cry from the heart of Gods people. Evan Roberts in Wales was so disturbed that his friends were away from God, and he seemed to have no answers for them. He went and sat in a Chapel and cried out to God, Lord bend me till I'm the shape I need to be to be of use to you.
Tonight I'm sitting here with a cry on my heart. "Lord bend me till I am of use in your hands" I'm overwhelmed by the mass of humanity that don't know Jesus; I sit here realising that only a move of God’s spirit will bring transformation to the young men I saw today. I think Lord if you did it for me over 30 years ago then Lord you can do it again and again. I'm coming to the end of 2009 more convinced than ever that the most relevant thing for young or old is an encounter with the living God.
My plea to the body as we enter the holiday season is don't wind down, rest by all means but let your heart cry out for the souls of the young and old of our land. Then cry for our own unbending souls that refuse to allow the Holy Spirit access to our ministries and churches.
One of the most amazing men of the Spirit of the past 60 years Oral Roberts has just passed over into his reward, His passing should bring a challenge for another generation to say Lord please give us souls. It won’t be the same as that which Oral Roberts did. But it needs to happen this year. The most important issue in 2010 is not the economy or climate change, it’s not world peace or nuclear destruction. The most important issue in 2010 is there are Millions who don't know Jesus and without a supernatural encounter our religion is not going to touch them.
I think talking to a man who still has the smoke of the Welsh revival on his life was the best thing that could have happened to me at the end of 2009
Lord bend us to your will in 2010 that young and old may have an encounter with you.

Scripture References
Open up, heavens, and rain. Clouds, pour out buckets of my goodness! Loosen up, earth, and bloom salvation; sprout right living. I, God, generate all this. Isaiah 45:8 [MSG]
Some people brought a man who could neither hear nor speak and asked Jesus to lay a healing hand on him. He took the man off by himself, put his fingers in the man's ears and some spit on the man's tongue. Then Jesus looked up in prayer, groaned mightily, and commanded, "Ephphatha!—Open Up!" And it happened. The man's hearing was clear and his speech plain—just like that. Mark 7:32-34 [MSG]

Its Open Heaven Time!

Deuteronomy 28:12 says "The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow." As I've meditated on this scripture over the last several months, I became curious about open heavens. I did a simple word search to find out what things come out of an open heaven. To my surprise, I discovered that some awesome things come out of open heavens. The Holy Spirit descended from heaven, angels ascend and descend from open heavens, blessings and rain pour out of open heavens, Jesus shined thru a blinding light out of heaven and visions of God come thru open heavens. In Mark 7, we find Jesus encountering a boy who is deaf and cannot speak. Jesus gazes into heaven, and with a deep moan, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened. As Jesus made this cry, Be Open, into heaven, the boy's ears opened up and he could speak. As I was reading this story, the Lord showed me that we are able to speak open heavens over people and situations and speak healing, visions, of God blessings, rain, etc out of open heavens. I challenge you on this week to begin to declare open heavens over your difficult situations, and speak what you need from heaven. I believe that we're at least guaranteed things that the Word demonstrates that come from open heavens, and I also believe that we can speak our heart's desires back to God during these same occasions! Be encouraged this week! Purpose to Love your God, yourself, and your neighbor tirelessly today!
God Bless You!

Thoughts On Land Redemption
Everyday we hear the words:
Community Revitalization, Elimination of Blight, Neighborhood Reinvestment, Heal the Land, Etc...
Usually when we hear these words, we assume that the responsibility to rebuild our communities belongs to someone else, may be city, county, state, or federal government, maybe it’s the big church on the other side of town, maybe it’s the guy next door…
That may have been ok for the past, BUT We’ve come to a place where we, as individuals and as a corporate body, have to be willing to keep the garden, the community. We must be willing to bear the responsibility as good stewards of our communities. We must begin to take seriously our God-given responsibility to have dominion in our neighborhoods and communities.
Psalm 24:1 declares: “The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it, the world and all who live in it” (Psalm 24.1)
The earth belongs to the Lord, but he’s given it over to us exercise dominion over it, to keep it, to govern it until the Lord Jesus returns.
3 Foundational Thoughts...
- Righteousness Exalts and Lifts Up A People (Proverbs 14:34)
- Sin Separates People from God (Isaiah 59:1-3)
- The Love of God Should Cause Us to Keep His Commandments, and to keep the community! (John 14:15)
As we bear in mind these 3 facts from scripture, they give us some clues to the successful revitalization of community.
Genesis 2:15 shows us Adam's first assignment after being placed in the Garden of Eden:
To dress = abad (aw-bad) = to work it, to serve it, to till it, to dress it
To keep = shamar = to guard, to protect, to watch, to hedge about as with thorns
The effect of individual sin on the land can first be seen in Genesis 3 as Adam and Eve eat of the forbidden fruit. Just after the serpent deceived Eve and convinces her that she won’t “surely die”:
Genesis 3:17
17 And to the man he said, “Since you listened to your wife and ate from the tree
whose fruit I commanded you not to eat, the ground is cursed because of you.
All your life you will struggle to scratch a living from it.
18 It will grow thorns and thistles for you, though you will eat of its grains.
19 By the sweat of your brow will you have food to eat until you return to the ground
from which you were made. For you were made from dust, and to dust you will return.”
Here, we find negative consequences of Adam and Eve having listened to the serpent and partaking of the forbidden fruit:
Woman: I'll multiply your pains in childbirth; you'll give birth to your babies in pain.
Woman: You'll want to please your husband, but he'll lord it over you.
Man: (v. 17) The very ground is cursed because of you; getting food from the ground will be as painful as having babies is for your wife; you'll be working in pain all your life long.
Man: (v. 18) The ground will sprout thorns and weeds, you'll get your food the hard way,
Planting and tilling and harvesting, sweating in the fields from dawn to dusk,
Here we see a direct relationship to sin and its affect on the land, notice, not only were Adam and Eve affected by their disobedience, but the land itself grew thorns and weeds! And we’re still dealing with the consequences today!
Let's make a choice to bless the communities in which we live by living holy lifestyles and keeping the commandments of God. Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin brings a reproach to men! Choose the righteous path today! If you need help redeeming your neighborhood, check back on this blog often. I'll be providing Biblical solutions to healing the land and restoring communities back to their former glory.
God Bless You!
