As we enter into another new year, it is important that we do not underestimate the power of vision. We’ve all heard the scriptures from Habakkuk that say write the vision on tablets, and make it plain, that he who runs may read it. We’ve also heard the scripture from Proverbs that says people without a vision will perish (cast off restraint). So, why would God go thru the trouble to include such a seemingly obscure thing like writing a vision into the Holy Scriptures? Maybe it’s because in his sovereignty, and omniscience, he wants us to operate in His principle of physically writing down your vision. Vision that’s in your head and not on paper will seldom become reality! So, what is vision? A vision is a set of values, principles, beliefs, and expectations that guide your life. Your vision should reflect your values, your heart, and things true to you as a unique individual. Vision should be broken down into goals and objectives that cover some span of time in your life. These goals and objectives should produce a corresponding action in you. Simply put, your written vision should cause you to conduct your life in a way that causes what is written to come to pass! Your vision also gives you a connection to supernatural grace because the writing of vision is not man’s idea, its God’s!
I often tell friends closest to me that people who don’t have a vision follow those who do. I was listening to a sermon from a ministry associate recently, and he pointed out the difference in a person who has a ministry gift, and a person who is a senior leader to the body of Christ; the difference was vision! Every gifted person in the body of Christ will not become a leader. Many highly talented, highly gifted, and highly qualified individuals will forever be followers because they don’t have a set of values, principles, beliefs and expectations that guide their life – A Vision!
Take some time and write down a vision for your life in 2009. What are specific things that you would like to accomplish in your personal life, family life, professional life, ministry life, and community this year? After you’ve written the high level vision, take each item and break it down into specific steps (goals) that you can follow on a day to day basis. After you’ve done this, you’ll look back on your life and see a pattern of accomplishment and achievement. You’ll also see supernatural success that could not have resulted if you had not taken the time to write the vision for 2009.
God Bless You!
